Fall Garden Party - Group Exhibit // September - November 2006
Brian is most renowned for his commissioned, creative cityscapes of Chicago. If you have strolled down the “Magnificent Mile” on your way to shopping or visiting the museums, you may have noticed his multi-colored city banners being displayed. Depicting the Hancock Building along with other Lakeshore landmarks, this banner has become one of the most coveted signature trademarks of The Windy City. This successful campaign earned Brian a national advertising award, and, The Red House is pleased and honored to display this artwork during its “Fall Garden Party” Exhibit.
Over his thirty-year career, Brian has won numerous other professional awards for his advertising, design and brand communication campaigns. His most notable clients include Russell Athletic, Red Tail Sports Wear, Keats Manufacturing, and Chicago Title & Trust.
Brian also teaches art at Loyola University.
As you admire his watercolors and oils, it is readily apparent that Brian has successfully translated his creative illustration skills onto canvas. His signature pieces for the “Fall Garden Party” Exhibit, Turnipcopia, Rainbow Landscape I, and California Landscape I are flush with vivid color and easily captivate the imagination. As a painter and designer, Brian brings elements of good design technique into his works, focusing on an initial strong, visual impact in his paintings. Curious and intense, his works invite the patron to ponder the relationships found in the various elements and color schemes. His earlier works were primarily abstract, but he has moved into a more representational direction, focusing on landscapes and still-lifes as subject matter, while incorporating both abstract and interpretative qualities. Brian concentrates on establishing a connection with the art patron: “Art should be fun and exciting visually while enhancing the patron’s overall esthetic experience. First and foremost, it is paramount that patrons enjoy the experience the canvas represents.”
Brian E. Bourke earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana and also did graduate work at the University of Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Illinois Institute of Technology. An honorably discharged Officer of the US Navy, Brian currently resides in Evanston, Illinois, is married and has two daughters, one whom is a Freshman at Loras College. The Red House welcomes Brian as its first native-Chicago artist.
