Bastille Day - Group Exhibit // July - August 2006
Cynthia strives to capture strong feelings and expressions on her canvas, so much so, that one senses
the nature of the conversations occurring between her subjects. Bold and distinct colors, engaging
ambiance, and fun, creative backgrounds are her signatures. Whether a cafè scene, a flower market,
lily pond, or rolling hills and meadows, Cynthia will engage your spirit.
People have been her favorite subject, with body language being "endlessly fascinating." The
"landscape of the human face" contains limitless yet mysterious history that she passionately explores
with pencil and/or brush.
Whether I am painting a figure or landscape, I'm intensely concerned with light. Frequently, I
exaggerate contrast or color to emphasize the light, a technique learned from observing the works of
Edward Hopper and Tamara de Lempicka. I am also inspired by the Iowa landscape, with the focus on
capturing these lovely fields in my abstract acrylic paintings and realistic oils.
Formerly the owner of the Main Gallery & Studio in Dubuque, Cynthia is highly regarded among the
artists' community in the Tri-State area. Winner of several artist competitions, Cynthia's works have
been collected by patrons throughout the Midwest, Colorado and California, where she has had
numerous solo and group shows, including two shows at The University of Dubuque.
