Fall Garden Party - Group Exhibit // September - November 2006
Sabine’s creations – unique vases in exceptional shapes and variations - instantly attract the viewer’s eye and intrigue. Humorous, comic yet beautiful, the exaggerated unconventional forms give the impression of a picture extract. The powdery green, blue and rose colors, the artistic carvings and painting styles, all make these objects d’art appear as if dancing or communicating with each other. There is no indication of the familiar heavy ceramic art, rather these vases appear paper thin. Don’t be fooled, these vases can be used as they are glazed inside. Be prepared to create your own still- life with fresh or dried flowers. Sabine’s technique: the stoneware is slab built, glazed inside and then painted with colored slips.
Sabine Martin is a native Berliner and pursued her training in Graphic Design and Ceramics in Berlin and Holstein, Germany. She has exhibited her ceramics throughout Germany and Amsterdam, and was also an Artist in Residence in Japan in 2005. The Red House welcomes Sabine as its first German-based ceramic artist.
